about

this is actually like an album. rather than a collection of individual things that i happen to have finished. ridiculous concept, and everything.

PART I. Pastiche
tracks 1-5

PART II. Parody
tracks 6-10

the story goes that parody occurs first. and degenerates into 'meaningless pastiche' - no original as a common reference point; the 'style' of parody becomes the 'norm'. and, to an extent, this rings true. if reductive. it also doesn't mean that pastiche cannot be parodied (even if it is with more pastiche!). the workings of pastiche share some resonances with the way that i've constructed music(k); with at least one of my methodologies, anyway, and i thought it would be interesting / boring / amusing / ridiculous to go "backwards" - from pastiche, to a parody thereof.

PART III. Prelude
track 11
the 'original'. so in that sense a 'prelude'. but also an appendix, or closing statement (to the 'artwork'). an answer machine message that daniel left for me once.

Recorded on the lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation; much respect to these peoples, the traditional custodians of these lands, and their elders past and present.
